That new flu visus that came out in 2006 lasts 5 weeks before the body clears it as it is a retrovisus similar to the virus for hooping cough, meaning no one has any immunity to it, even if they have been vacinated. That came from our Ministry of health here in NZ. It does pass, eventually.

First, Lille’s goal was clean. Second, you can actually see the referee saying something to Giggs before he takes the free kick, and then turning his back to the goal. It all seemed to be arranged… And I thought the only place where the referees are corrupt was Portugal…

I’m Portuguese as well, and although i do think the ref’s performance was awful, I wouldn’t go as far as call the match “arranged”… And I think Lille’s behavior (leaving the pitch) was outrageous as well. And the freekick was legal, nothing prevents a team from doing so, Lille should’ve kept someone near the ball…

What are you talking about? The ref had a great game and had 1 big decision to make which was the push on Vidic. The goal by Giggs was perfectly fine by UEFA and FIFA rules, and the ref did nothing wrong. If the player doesn’t ask for the wall to be moved back he can take the free kick fast. Giggs was just asking the ref about it and once the ref stepped away the ball was live. You common sense before you make ignorant comments.

Competent refs in the 21st century tend to point at the whistle before the free kick is taken and only allow it after they blow the whistle. The purpose is to give the defending team the fair chance to organize the wall and hence avoid shameless goals like this one. This is comparable to those players who keep running while their opponent is laying injured on the ground. It’s easy to score goals like that, but is it fair?

it’s not the first time it happened in football. And i can’t remember ever a similar goal being disallowed. So, well done Giggs! it was a nice kick, to be taken so quickly. loved fergie’s reaction to neville. the old guy still has a lot of fire i him.

The rule for free kicks is that the ref asks the taker whether he would like to take it quickly and risk someone within ten yards blocking it or wait for the whistle and the ref makes sure the wall is ten yards. Giggs clearly picked the former and so took it when he was ready. It seems logical that the team who are fouled get the advantage. It’s laughable that a whole team and its manager don’t know the rules.

Teams played according to the domestic football culture. No one would ever play this way in France. Not a single Lille player could understand the ref’s decision. And just the MU’s supporters behaviour during the match should kick their asses off the competition, not Lille.

In fairness to the Lille players, they were called off the field by the coaching staff. Many of them looked bemused. Secondly, stupid Neville nearly escalated the situation by going over and remonstrating. No wonder Fergie was mad.

As for the two goals, the ref was correct. The Lille striker cleared his way to a free header by pushing Vidic out of the way and Giggs acted within the laws by taking the free kick quickly. No law states that he must wait till the opposition has organized its wall.
